Tall people recognise something in each other, and a good deal of practical knowledge follows from that. Twenty-six, brunette, working from Oud-Zuid, she knows which central buildings have the ceiling height for a two metre frame and which have a bed that runs out at your shins. Greek and English are both easy for her. She asks for the length of the mattress and the clear space beside it, and where the answer is small the plan comes down to floor level instead. That gets settled in two lines and is never discussed twice.

Cassandra decides which bookings she takes and may decline any of them; she sets the limits for what a session includes, says what they are, and may end a visit at any point, as the terms set out.
